During the Second World War, René Char was Captain Alexandre, one of the leaders of the resistance of the maquis in the hinterland of Provence. Photos, manuscripts, archival documents and film excerpts show the years of commitment of the poet, who then placed his convictions above his work. Jérôme Prieur retraces the admirable career of the poet during those dark years, during which he refused to take refuge across the Atlantic, fought against the occupier, commanded a secret army, helped many refugees to flee or hide, and wrote in secret for as long as the unspeakable situation in which we find ourselves the Feuillets d'Hypnos .
