Ouvrières du monde
In 1998, the Levi Strauss brand announced its intention to restructure its activities in Europe by relocating its production facilities. Belgian and French factories are condemned. The company plans to set up operations in Turkey, the Philippines and Indonesia. This film offers a glimpse into the daily lives of women workers in the North and South and focuses on the experiences of Rosa and Marie Thérèse as they spend their last months working in Levi's factories in Belgium and France. It also combines testimonies of Turkish and Indonesian women workers, including Yanti, whose only horizon seems to be 10, 12 or 14 hours of work for a derisory salary. The strength of this film is that it emotionally portrays the human stakes of globalization, while dealing with economic issues.
