Jean Grémillon's film is realistic at the crossroads of document and poem. It exalts the work of the painter André Masson and shows the lucidity, dedication and patience necessary for any creator. He superimposes on the image a text inspired by Masson's work which, divided into eight parts, directs the eye to the very heart of the artist's creative work.
