La Vie est à nous
Marcel Cachin, director of l'Humanité, reads three letters concerning the action of the French Communist Party, illustrated by three sketches. Each one seeks to introduce a sequence on the role of the Party with the workers. At the factory, workers fight against the pace of work and get an unjustly laid-off employee reinstated. To save a peasant from bankruptcy, farmers unite to thwart an auction. Finally, a young urban couple in misery finds work and comfort in the Party's youth. This is followed by speeches by Marcel Cachin, Jacques Duclos and Maurice Thorez. This commission from the PCF, both naive and sincere, produced for the Popular Front elections of 1936, is a collective work, supervised by Jean Renoir whose direction is recognizable.
