Betty drinks alone in a bar. Too much. A doctor takes her to a secluded bar-hotel, "Le Trou". Betty meets Laure, the mistress of the owner of Le Trou, and Laure moves into a luxurious hotel in Versailles. The two women talk to each other. Betty tells her story, her marriage to a dolphin of the Lyon bourgeoisie, her boredom, the contract imposed on her, alcohol, decay. Based on a novel by George Simenon.
