Étincelles

Mailo is my village, I was born there in 1975. I am a Christian, my father is a Muslim. Today, I do not recognize my village. It is divided by religious tensions, a paved road serving as a dividing line: Muslims on one side, Christians on the other. One night in 2009, I received a call from a cousin: “Bawa, get up and pray, your village is on the verge of an explosion!” The two “sides” were going to fight. So, to encourage people to talk about the possibility of living together, I returned to the village with a project: to build a house on the Muslim side.
