Marseille, Estaque district. Marius is the solitary janitor of a vast industrial wasteland. Jeannette, who has lost her job, raises her two children in a tiny house that opens onto an inner courtyard where two friendly couples live. Jeannette meets Marius, and together they try to forget that they have been hurt by life. The film describes the rebirth of their ability to be happy.
