Michel Gerfaut is a professional player. One evening, on a deserted road, he helps a motorist who is in an accident and dies in hospital. In reality, the stranger has been murdered. Michel learns this from the newspaper at the same time as two other people are shot. The three dead people were all executives at the Emmerich company, specialized in aviation and armaments. An inconvenient witness, Michel is soon the target of the killers who are looking for him. Victim of a first murder attempt, Michel witnesses a little later the brutal death of his friend Liétard, of the general information. From then on, he takes action. Shot, watched by the police, he nevertheless eliminates his direct adversaries. Emmerich and his collaborators, convinced that they are dealing with a professional, decide to deal with him. Finally discovering the truth, Michel refuses to collaborate. Emmerich then dies of a heart attack. His successor, Leprince, still believing in a hypothetical blackmail from Michel, finally has him coldly executed in the middle of the street.
