À Valparaiso
35 mmEnglish, French0 subtitles languages
From the top of its steep hills the "gate of paradise" (Valparaiso) dominates the sea and the port. Strolling down the stairs of Valparaiso in Chile, Joris Ivens offers us a poetic portrait of the city of forty-two hills: we explore with him a city marked by the wind that seeps in everywhere, rare water and blood, that of its history and daily violence, of its rich neighbourhoods at the bottom and the poor at the top. This film is a film-manifesto, carried by Chris Marker's commentary. It bears witness to the difficult situation in Latin America and the gulf that separates and unites in the city, misery and wealth.
