Jean, Charles, Raymond, Jacques and Mario, five unemployed workers meet every day in a café and buy a lottery ticket together. Luck smiled on them and they won 20,000 francs. Determined not to split up, they plan to build a guinguette on the water's edge and set to work. The abandoned and overgrown ruins on which the guinguette is to be built are transformed into a joyous construction site. But the solidarity of the group is fragile. Finally, Jean and Charles, in love with the same woman, are left and will soon hate each other. Will the epilogue be happy or tragic?
