A provincial town, around 1913. Armand, an attractive cavalry lieutenant, makes a bet to seduce the milliner on the main street. She resists, then gives in and a shared love is born between them, but a jealous man reveals the story of the bet. Wounded, Marie-Louise watches the regiment leave for the great maneuvers that perhaps foreshadow the war.
