Le Journal d'une femme de chambre
by Luis Buñuel• 1964• 1h45• Comedy-dramawith Michel Piccoli, Jeanne Moreau, Georges Geret
The action of Octave Mirbeau's novel has been transposed to 1930, at the time of Maurras and the Ligues. Célestine is a chambermaid for the Rabours, a bourgeois family from the provinces. She carves out a place for herself in the sun, observing the perversions and violence of her masters and neighbors, before coming to an end by marrying a retired military man. In the last shots, far-right demonstrators march through the streets of Cherbourg.
