In the 18th century, a small Italian theater company was invited to perform in a Spanish colony in Latin America. The local ruler has received by the same ship a ceremonial carriage covered with gold. Camilla, who plays Colombine, resists the advances of Felipe, who has traveled with her. The performances began and she was soon courted by a bullfighter, famous throughout the kingdom, and then by the sovereign, who invited the troupe to perform at court. Madly in love, the latter offers her the golden carriage, triggering a diplomatic crisis with the nobility and the jealousy of the other suitors...
