Algéries, mes fantômes

Forced to leave Algiers at the beginning of the fundamentalist attacks, the author - a filmmaker of Judeo-European origin - finds himself in France, thirty-five years after the exodus of his community of origin and his family. With the hope of mourning his murdered friends, he spent several months filming in different cities, meeting people at random during the presentation of his films, all of which speak of Algeria yesterday and today, of its violence and its exclusions. The author thus realizes that, unbeknownst to him, he makes all those who were born there, lived there and tore each other apart: Muslims, Jews, Christians, Arab-Berbers, Blackfoot Algerians and Frenchmen from France, united by the same attachment to Algeria, take communion in the same emotion. Witnessing that the current drama of his country awakens old wounds that have never healed, he discovered that his own were hiding his own dreams: a mixed Algeria dreamed of for more than thirty years.
