In a small village in Corsica, the life of Hélène, self-effacing and discreet, is made up of days that follow one another and look the same... A hotel chambermaid, she seems happy with Ange and Lisa, her husband and fifteen-year-old daughter. Her life seems all mapped out... Her modest destiny changes the day when, while cleaning a room in the hotel, her eyes are caught by a young American couple in love and seductive who are playing chess on the terrace. At first fascinated by the free and sensual exchange that emanates from their relationship, she becomes passionate about chess. Hélène will do everything in her power, with obstinacy, to master the rules of this game to the point of excellence. She will be able to count on the help of Mr. Kröger, a mysterious inhabitant of the village, to accompany her in her metamorphosis, to find her freedom and her identity as a woman.
