1793, Nicolas Philibert, who made his fortune in the New World after being exiled there, returns to France to divorce. He finds his wife Charlotte in the royalist camp where she is in love with a marquis and courted by a prince. After many ups and downs, they end up divorcing. But later, alongside the soldiers of the Year II who defend the Republic, they realize that they still love each other.
