Alain Robbe-Grillet evokes the role of memory in writing and reflects on the origins of his film Glissements progressifs du plaisir (1974) - a sort of adaptation of Michelet's La Sorcière de Michelet as seen by Roland Barthes : she has no concern for the book's unfolding but on the other hand, a very great fidelity to the book's double and perverse spirit . Her narratives, whether cinematographic or literary, bring together incompatible forces. Here, it is the man who opposes the woman, the spirit of freedom against the established order. Robbe-Grillet then tackles numerous themes in a critical reading with François Jost: woman as the incarnation of evil, imprisonment, dreams, the role of the sea, the leitmotiv... Also noteworthy is the intervention of Tom Bishop, an American academic, who compares Robbe-Grillet to Beckett. These are all very enlightening comments that alternate with numerous excerpts from the film.
