Hélène takes care of her son-in-law Bernard. A veteran of the Algerian war, he was forced to take part in the torture and murder of Muriel, an Algerian woman accused of sabotage, but he is unable to come to terms with his past, like his comrade Robert, or to forget it. On the other hand, Hélène, in the middle of an apartment transformed into an antique store, tries to find her youthful love, Alphonse. Their meeting will make them discover that they have nothing in common despite their efforts to understand each other.
