Le Papier ne peut pas envelopper la braise

by Rithy Panh

In a building in Phnom Penh live 13 prostitutes under 20 years old. By filming their conversations as closely as possible, without pathos or voyeurism, Rithy Panh plunges us into the depths of human distress, that of these destroyed young women, who have become veritable pariahs of today's Cambodian society, which has 30,000 prostitutes, a third of whom are under 17 years of age. Rithy Panh continues here to explore the wounds of a people mutilated by the genocide perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge thirty years ago, and tries to fight against the amnesia from which his country suffers.
