Charged by the rich Greenlaf to find his son Philippe who lingers a little too long in Italy, Tom Ripley, his former comrade, goes in search of him. He finds him leading a merry life and does not plan to return. Philippe, under the eyes of Marge, his fiancée, takes pleasure in humiliating Tom until the day when this one takes advantage of the absence of Marge to assassinate him. He then identifies himself with Philip to get his hands on his bank account. He fools the police and deceives Marge, but still has to get rid of an intruder. Having become an expert in crime concealment, he thinks he has succeeded. But then his luck runs out.
