From L'Eden and after shooting in 1971 in natural settings in Bratislava and Djerba, with Catherine Jourdan, Alain Robbe-Grillet emphasizes the serial form and the role played by colour. He thus situates the film in his writing work: Eden and After could be considered as a metaphor of my creative experience. This outburst in the light of Djerba of a story of horseback riding, fire and kidnapping, compared to the rigour of the structures at the beginning of the film, would resemble a little what could oppose my first projects to my last works of fiction or cinema. The interview conducted by François Jost and Pascal-Emmanuel Gallet analyses with the author several themes of his work: Eden and the themes identification and initiation plastic aspect and iconography chance, necessity and the self.
