Site 2 aux abords des frontières

In Cambodia, after the overthrow of Prince Sihanouk, the Khmer Rouge take power in April 1975. Two to three million people are executed or driven out of their country. Rithy Panh, who at the age of 15 had been in refugee camps, returns ten years later to film one of these camps, Site 2, set up along the Thai border. He becomes attached to Yim Om, a mother who fled Cambodia and, after moving from camp to camp, settled at Site 2. In this camp, where 180,000 exiles live on a territory of 4.5 km2, she suffers with unfailing obstinacy the precariousness, the daily problems of supply, health and especially idleness, waiting and nostalgia. Rithy Panh offers here the moving portrait of a woman who, through an extremely precarious daily life, tries to keep her humanity and dignity.
