Boudu, a Parisian tramp, has thrown himself into the Seine. He is saved by Mr. Lestingois, a liberal-minded bookseller who takes him in to reconcile him with life and society. But Boudu is bored and spends his time disturbing the peace of the households and scandalizing the customers of the bookshop. It is then decided to marry him off.
