Four years after the first part of Profiles paysans, we find the same farmers in the middle mountains, in Haute-Loire, Lozère and Ardèche, desertified and isolated regions, outside the agricultural policy. Raymond Depardon's camera is there to film, without the slightest effect, modest characters: Marcel Privat, the silent man, Paul Argaud, the solitary man, Robert Maneval, the beautiful talker, or the dignified Marcelle Brès, such human vestiges of a bygone era, abandoned in the heart of a changing environment. An intense and luminous work of memory on the rural world, Depardon's vision remains as precious as the rare words of those he films.
