Before his death in Paris, the painter Jean-Baptiste Emmerich invited his family and friends to his funeral in the family vault in Limoges. The Emmerich family made their fortune in shoes. On the train from Paris to Limoges, then at the cemetery, and finally in the large family home, they were torn apart.
