Antoine Doinel continues his adventures. Discharged after a stay in military prison, he meets the parents of the girl he is in love with, Christine, who find him a job as a night watchman. Quickly dismissed from this job, he becomes a private detective and continues to see Christine, who is followed by a mysterious man. During an investigation he is led to follow Mrs. Tabar, whom her husband suspects. Seduced by her, he pursues her.
