Njangaan
En version restauréeIn the Fulani language, Njangaan means apprenticeship. This film presents a harsh critique of Koranic education through the tragic story of a young talibé, a Senegalese student-beggar of an unscrupulous marabout who, under the guise of holiness, exploits popular credulity. It is a poignant portrayal of the lives of these young boys, separated from their mothers at a very young age and entrusted to a teacher responsible for their education. Under threat of severe abuse, they are forced to beg for food, cultivate the fields, gather firewood, and perform all the community's chores in exchange for long hours of study devoted to learning and reciting the Koran.
