Thérèse Desqueyroux, accused of having tried to poison her husband Bernard, obtains a dismissal thanks to the depositions of her husband who preferred to give false testimony to the sullying of his name. As she returns to Argelouse, their estate, Thérèse tries to prepare the confession she feels she owes to Bernard. She thinks back to her adolescence up to her accusation through her marriage.
